Over the weekend of the 20th & 21st May there was an excellent display of what Bexhill has to offer residents and visitors.

On the Saturday we had the very first Bexhill Showcase (partly supported by Bexhill Town Council) featuring over twenty voluntary groups and charities, together with our security and safety services, displaying what they do, how they do it, and what the residents of Bexhill can do to help them.  This was a good opportunity to meet those groups who maybe you would like to support in some way, whether it is for a few hours a week or perhaps supporting in some financial way. The list of groups involved included:-

Bexhill Breathers - Bexhill Family Collective - Bexhill Heritage - Bexhill Jazz Club - Bexhill Lions - Bexhill Museum - Bexhill Street Pastors - Bexhill Town Council - Blue Cross first aid - CAP (Christians against Poverty) - Community Supporters - East Sussex Fire & Rescue - Footbridge Project - Girlguiding Bexhill - Guide Dogs for the Blind (Little Common branch) - HM Coastguards - Homecall - Jesus Loves Bexhill - Raystede Animal Welfare - Rother Voluntary Action - Royal British Legion - St John's Church - ALPHA Course - Women's Institute

There were activities for the children, and much to see and take in. A very worthwhile series of displays and information. Then there was: -

Practically non-stop music and entertainment from individual ‘crooners’, ukulele groups, poetry reading, brass band, folk bands, a troop of 35 youngsters performing dance. Saturday and Sunday kicked off with the Royal British Legion Concert Band, then on the Saturday, after the official opening of the Bexhill Showcase with Geoff Tompkins (organiser of both events), Michael Ensor of St John’s and the ALPHA Course display, Claire Prime of Homecall and Guy Partidge of CAP, we were treated by Amanda Lacey and 35 of her youngsters performing a musical dance with acrobatics no less.

More entertainment throughout the day with: - The FOG - Kevin Terrell (Macmillan Busker) - Shady Ladies - Claire Baldry - Albatross Ukulele Band - The Other Band - Unstable Cliffs, with The Kukes ending a superb day.
Sunday
The Royal British Legion Concert Band commenced the day, and supported the “Thanksgiving Service” led by Geoff Tompkins and Kevin Terrell. Some rousing hymns, an excellent talk by David Simpkins, followed by a heartfelt prayer from June Tompkins. This was then followed by our Macmillan Busker Kevin Terrell who incidentally, launched his nationwide Macmillan Busker campaign at the Coronation Bandstand on the 1st July with national TV coverage. We then enjoyed: - The Albatross Ukulele Band, followed by what was for many the absolutely brilliant Spinning Jenny Band and the “Barn Dance”; no shy, reserved audience here.  People were clamouring to join in with this packed, fun event which included many dance mistakes and much laughter.  It was a really good family fun activity, great to see and be a part of on Bexhill seafront, and what a great ‘caller’ we had with Pat King; she was sensitive, understanding, and clear in her explanations - it was just a few of the dancers that got confused!
Bob Hammond, had the unenviable task of following what went on before him, and then The Other Band ended the day's event.

Wow, what a fun-packed exciting weekend
